About Jeanine

Jeanine Talento, E-RYT 500, is a Trauma-Informed Educator, Yoga Teacher Trainer, Somatic Arts Facilitator & passionate writer. Jeanine believes in the power of healing through reclaiming the body as the central space through which we experience life. Jeanine believes that through nervous system education and embracing vulnerability, individuals can learn to revere and celebrate all parts of who they are, thus living more full and vibrant lives.

An outspoken and unconventional facilitator of 1:1 mentorships, Yoga Teacher Trainings, Somatic Facilitation courses, Retreats & Women’s circles, Jeanine brings a light hearted approach to Trauma-Informed work that normalizes and releases shame around the difficulties of being human. A firm believer that healing requires a sense of humor, Jeanine loves to infuse her lectures and trainings with the opportunity to reclaim joy, playfulness, and laughter. The foundation of Jeanine’s work is that liberation from trauma requires a collaboration of compassionate inquiry, somatic curiosity, releasing shame, and recognizing our limiting core beliefs. The mission of all Trauma-Informed endeavors is to create a safe space where folks can explore their inner landscape with patience and permission.

Jeanine’s yoga journey began in 2006 in New York City as a way to seek relief from mental health struggles including anxiety, OCD, and insomnia. Little did she know, the same perceived suffering that brought her to Yoga would be exactly what she alchemized into her power, purpose, and personalized offerings. Jeanine uses a multidisciplinary approach to body-based interventions that gradually guide her clients to orient towards feelings of safety and regulation within their physical form. Her work is invigorated by and founded on the belief that:

Soma is Spirit & your embodiment is your art.

In other words, the precious and nuanced journey back home to the body is a spiritual endeavor that opens us up to a life of more meaning, expression, and connection.

A long time student of Psychology, Jeanine is adamant about the intersection of Yoga and Trauma-Informed principles. She received her B.S in Psychology and Communications in 2013 from CUNY Queens College and has 3000+ hours of Trauma-Informed Training. Jeanine weaves the powerful topics of Yoga for Mental Health, Addiction, and Trauma into YTT curriculum in a way that is accessible, inclusive, and allows for integration.

Jeanine is committed to her on-going development as a teacher, space holder, and human being. Jeanine completed the year long graduate level program Compassionate Inquiry with Dr. Gabor Mate, six-month Introduction to Internal Family Systems with Dick Schwartz, a year-long Certificate in Contemplative Psychotherapy at the Nalanda Institute, and an Integrative Somatic Trauma Therapy Certificate through The Embody Lab.

In 2019, Jeanine founded the Trauma-Informed sect of School Yoga Institute.

In 2022, Jeanine co-founded the Somatic Arts Facilitation Certification with Nichole Ferro.

About Trauma-Informed Work

A space that honors the nuance of the human experience facilitates an environment where each practitioner can take agency over their own bodily autonomy, nervous system regulation, and power of choice. A truly trauma-informed environment embraces and welcomes all emotional realities while highlighting the undeniable truth that embodiment and empowerment means discerning for oneself what feels right and what feels safe in each moment.

Our integration of this knowledge then informs the way that we show up to hold space for others. With compassion, curiosity, and kindness we can broaden our willingness to meet the fluctuations of being human both within ourselves and within each other. Embodiment practices, such as Yoga asana, are proven to be the most effective modality in trauma recovery. With this in mind, we learn that we can excavate art from our painful experiences and use it all as a source of freedom and authentic self-expression.

Being trauma-informed involves recognizing how previous traumatic experiences can influence the responses, actions, and nervous systems of the individuals we work with. It also necessitates comprehension of how trauma is stored in the body and how this can create challenges as well as opportunities for healing. Trauma-informed awareness encompasses understanding various forms of trauma, such as systemic, racial, or development trauma, and acknowledging their impact on our lives.

The spirit and stories of our lives reside in our bodies and Trauma-Informed work offers us the opportunity to harness our stories into embodied leadership and dedicated service work. The bi-product of doing our own transformational work is that it ignites a fire within us to bring embodiment techniques and nervous system informed practices into alternative spaces where a return to the body is needed most.

Trauma-Informed care and education reminds us that we can fearlessly swim into the depths of what it means to be a sensing, feeling, alive human being and that we can buoy each other back up through laughter, vulnerability, love, and connection.

“Jeanine specializes in Trauma Informed Training. She has an in-depth knowledge of the psychology and physiology of anxiety, stress, and trauma. She calls upon this background to effectively design yoga flow sequences to relieve symptoms and ease students into a calmer frame of mind.”
